He Did Promise Me
Did he beg
you, with all his heart, for your trust?
Did he ask
you, with all his heart, to have faith?
Did he hold your hands tightly when he swore those promises?
Did he
promise you that everything will get better, that he is home now?
Did he promise you that he does exist for you and won’t ever
make you feel alone?
Did he
promise you that all he needs is time and chance and he won’t mess around
anymore?
Did he
promise you that he would do anything to make you happy for now and for good?
Did he
promise you that he would take care of your heart more and nothing can get
worse?
Did he
promise you that he would bear your soul as he was kneeling on the floor?
And what
would you hold onto when he broke all of those promises?
For he
could not even remember making them when the morning comes.
For he was
too drunk to remember it all.
And here you are, barely holding onto those drunken
promises,
All alone, feeling hollow, numb, no one’s there to caress,
As you weep and try to mend all of your bruises,
Cry yourself to sleep within memories.
And even through it all, you would still choose to stand
till the end of the road,
All alone, waiting for him to come home and keep his drunken
words.
