Separated
How can love change? Does love change? Does love really change? At times in life we find people who used to say they love somebody but the next time they say they do not love them anymore. How can love change like that? Is it the love that changes or is it the heart? How can heart change? Does heart change? Does heart really change? People say that human’s heart is fickle. Why is it so? Why? At times in life we find people who used to say that they cannot live without their significant other but the next time they want to separate with them. How can heart change like that? I personally believe that love does not change. On the other hand, a heart can change. I do believe that. Love never change. It is the human’s heart that changes. What makes a human’s heart change? Is it the absence of love? People say that love fades away. How can love fade away? Do they abandon the love? Do they not taking care of the love? If love really fades away, is it enough as a reason for people to be separated? Is it? Is it?
“If love was a fire then we have
lost the spark, love never felt so cold. If love was a light then we’re lost in
the dark, left with no one to hold. If love was a sport, we’re not on the same
team; you and I are destined to lose. If love was an ocean then we are just a
stream, ‘cause love isn’t for me and you.” –Usher, Separated
This time I would
like to talk about separation, in a frame of a song performed by American
singer-songwriter, Usher, titled “Separated”. It was released in August 7th
2001 as a part of the singer’s third studio album, “8701”. The ballad track was
written by Usher himself along with Daron Jones and Cedric Moore a.k.a Ric
Atari. Though “Separated” wasn’t released as a promotional single from the
album, it was getting a quite heavy airplay on the radio in the city where I
lived. The sad melancholic piano melody accompanies well the heart-wrenching
lyrics that tell about how the relationship between two people is transforming
which somehow leads them to decide to be separated. It captures well the
emotion towards how irony love is thought to be faded away.

People say that love
fades away. Is it true? If love was a bird, when did it lose its wings? If love
was a sky, when did it become blue? If love was a choir, when did it lose the
ability to sing? If love was an Oscar, when did it lose the chance to win? If
love was the Bible, when did it get lost in sin? I believe that love had wings
in the first place; that it wasn’t blue, that it could sing, that it had
chances to win, that it wasn’t lost in sin. Then when did love lose it all? Why
did love lose it all? I believe that it doesn’t change just like that. I
believe it changes because we let it. It changes because our hearts let it.
Love is like a little kid that needs to be taken care of in order to grow well
and healthy; teach and guard them carefully as it grows. “If love was a bird then we wouldn’t have wings. If love was a sky,
we’d be blue. If love was a choir, you and I could never sing, ‘cause love
isn’t for me and you. If love was an Oscar, you and I could never win, ‘cause
we can never act out our parts. If love is the Bible then we are lost in sin,
because it’s not in our hearts.”
People say that love
fades away. Is it true? If love was a fire, when did it lose its spark? If love
was a fire, when did it become so cold? If love was a light, when did it get
lost in the dark? If love was a light, when did it lose someone to hold? If
love was a sport, when did it become a different team? If love was a sport,
when did it become destined to lose? If love was an ocean, when did it become a
stream? I believe that love had the spark in the first place. Where did it all
go? I believe that love gave us light in the first place. Where did it all go?
It has gone because we let it. It has gone because our hearts let it. Love is
like a plant that needs to be taken care of in order to grow well and fertile;
give enough water and light carefully as it grows. “If love was a fire then we have lost the spark, love never felt so
cold. If love was a light then we’re lost in the dark, left with no one to
hold. If love was a sport, we’re not on the same team; you and I are destined
to lose. If love was an ocean then we are just a stream, ‘cause love isn’t for
me and you.”
People say that love
fades away. Is it true? If it was full of good times then where did it all go?
If it is sad then why do we have to say goodbye? If the love is still there
then why do we have to be separated? I believe that love can make anything
work. It cannot work because we let it. It cannot work because our hearts let
it. “Girl I know we had some good times.
It’s sad but now we got to say goodbye. Girl you know I love you, I can’t deny.
I can’t say we didn’t try to make it work for you and I. I know it hurts so
much but it’s best for us. Somewhere along this windy road we lost the trust.
So I’ll walk away so you don’t have to see me cry. It’s killing me so, why
don’t you go.” How would we know that it is the best when it hurts so much?
How would we know that we will do well? How would we know that we will be fine?
How would we know that it is for better and best? How would we? “So why don’t you go your way, and I’ll go
mine, live your life, and I’ll live mine. Baby you’ll do well, and I’ll be
fine, ‘cause we’re better off, separated.”
“I’m sorry we didn’t make it.” People say that love fades away.
Well, for me, I personally think that love doesn’t fade away; it is just
transforming instead. It is not that it has lost the spark; it is just that we
don’t make it sparkling. It is not that it has become dark; it is just that we
don’t make it light. I know it all too well that a relationship can be so rough
and harsh. And somewhere along the relationship, the love itself is
transforming. We cannot expect for a burning passionate love for all time.
Somewhere along the journey, it transforms into a warming calm love. It doesn’t
mean that the love fades away; it just that the love becomes mature. Just
because the love has transformed, is it enough to be the reason for separation?
Is it wrong to have the love that is mature? Is it a sin to have a love that is
mature? Is it losing to have the love that is mature? Is it not a good thing to
have a love that is mature? Well, we better think again. If separation is the
final answer, then I believe that the problem is more than just that the love
has transformed.
“Girl I know we had some good
times. It’s sad but now we got to say goodbye. Girl you know I love you, I
can’t deny. I can’t say we didn’t try to make it work for you and I. I know it
hurts so much but it’s best for us. Somewhere along this windy road we lost the
trust. So I’ll walk away so you don’t have to see me cry. It’s killing me so,
why don’t you go.” –Usher, Separated
