The Trouble with Love Is

How can love be joyful and sorrowful at the same time? Well, I guess that’s just the way love is; troublesome. Have you ever wondered about that? Apparently, at some point in life, there are so many moments that make people thinking and rethinking about love, and the trouble that comes along with it. For me, it happens many times, particularly on a night this; sleepless night, all over again. Love is troublesome indeed, in a very good and a very bad possible way that it can be. We can’t live with yet we can’t live without. But I believe in one thing; that nothing is actually good or actually bad, everything is just in between, and so is love. So learn well the words of my song. For when I am gone the singing will fade, and the silence shall last long and long.
“Now I
was once a fool, it’s true. I played the game by all the rules, but now my
world’s a deeper blue. I’m sadder, but I’m wiser too. I swore I’d never love
again. I swore my heart would never mend. Said love wasn’t worth the pain, but
then I hear it call my name.” –Kelly Clarkson, The Trouble With Love Is

Love is troublesome in the way that it can be joyful and sorrowful at the same time. Yet apparently, people live loking for trouble and can’t seem to get enough of it. The lyrics of “The Trouble With Love Is” talk about the ups and downs of romance. “Love can be a many splendored thing. Can’t deny the joy it brings; dozen roses, diamond rings, dreams for sale and fairy tales. It’ll make you hear a symphony, and you just want the world to see. But like a drug that makes you blind, it’ll fool you every time.” Love can bring us into heaven, and hell, back and forth so many times. But it seems that once we’ve tasted the heaven of love, it doesn’t matter to be in hell once more time for another taste of heaven in the next time; ironically. “Now I was once a fool, it’s true. I played the game by all the rules, but now my world’s a deeper blue. I’m sadder, but I’m wiser too. I swore I’d never love again. I swore my heart would never mend. Said love wasn’t worth the pain, but then I hear it call my name.” And even the taste of the hell of love can’t make us resist the heaven’s temptation. At one time we think we’ve had enough, but then we find ourselves falling in the same hole over and over again. That’s just how love works.
“Every time I turn
around, I think I’ve got it all figured out. My heart keeps calling and I keep
on falling, over and over again. This sad story always ends the same, me
standing in the pouring rain. It seems no matter what I do, it tears my heart
in two.” Even the strongest man is weak in front of love.
Even the greatest man is falling apart before love. And the funny thing is,
somehow we manage to survive. The pain itself that gives us strength. The fall
itself that gives us wings to fly. “The
trouble with love is, it can tear you up inside, make your heart believe a lie,
it’s stronger than your pride. The trouble with love is, it doesn’t care how
fast you fall, and you can’t refuse the call, see, you got no say at all.” And
apparently, life is full of dark comedy about love. No matter how deep we’ve
been hurt by love, we just can’t live without it. And the ones we love the most
are ones with the biggest chance to hurt us. Only love can hurt. Only love can
bring pain. Ironically, we find the scar is beautiful. We find the pain is
addictive. Just like a drug; it tastes good, it’s addicting, it’s dangerous,
and it kills. “It’s in your heart. It’s
in your soul. You won’t get no control.” It’s in our hearts, and we should
never let it rules our heads; theoritically.
Kelly
Clarkson wrote “The Trouble With Love Is” herself, along with Evan Rogers and
Carl Sturken. The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who
praised it for being ‘soulful’ and ‘romantic’. Many also praised Clarkson’s powerful
yet melancholic vocals, comparing her to Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. The music
video for the song was directed by Bryan Barber. It premiered on
November 7th 2003 on MTV’s “Total Request Live”. Though it didn’t receive
commercial success as many as Clarkson’s other hits, this song has its own
charm. And it’s definitely lethal enough to make this song memorable and last
for a lifetime.
