Back to Me

Imagine we could turn back the time. If we could, how many people would turn back the time? Perhaps all of them. All of us. We all wanted to turn back the time, at some point, no matter how many times we said to ourselves and tried to reassure that we had no regrets, right? However, if there’s one impossible thing for a human, then that’s turning back the time. On the other hand, the time itself is there for us to contemplate and resolute. As long as we’re given the time, I believe that there’s nothing that couldn’t be fixed, even broken relationship. I used to think that, once we breakup with someone, there’s no way we can get back together again. What for? We will stumble upon the same old problems anyway with the same person. But seeing some of my friends, it seems possible. Because there’s a moment, when we realize how much someone matters for us once we’re separated from that person. And for some people, the breakup itself is just a sign that they eventually belong together in the end.
“Although
we can’t go back exactly to the way we were back then, like the spring that
comes after winter melts away, you just have to come to me.” –Byun Jin
Sub, Back To Me (그대 내게 다시)
Today’s
song for Moments Of Our Lives part 2
is a Korean classic hit titled “Back To Me (그대
내게
다시)”,
performed by legendary male singer, Byun Jin Sub. The English translation of
the song’s title is also known as “Come Back To Me Again” and “You To Me
Again”. The ballad track with some rock elements in it was first released in
1992 as the lead song from Byun’s fifth studio album. It’s Byun’s most
frequently covered song. It was remade by many of his junior artists like Kim
Bum Soo, Kim Yeon Woo, Rumble Fish, and Lee Eun Mi. In 1997, Kim Gun Mo sang a
remake for its songwriter, Kim Hyung Suk’s project, “Ace”. It’s a beautiful
love song for couples getting back together, with Byun’s emotional and sad
voice can be heard throughout the song.

There’s a moment, when people realize how much someone matters for them once they’re separated from that person. The lyrics of “Back To Me (그대 내게 다시)” speak about two people who are about to start their relationship all over again. However, getting back together is not that easy. “Are you trying to come back to me again? Are you confused because you don’t know whether I love you? Although we can’t go back exactly to the way we were back then, like the spring that comes after winter melts away, you just have to come to me.” Doubt and hesitation will always stand in the way of two people who try to get back together. Because nothing can erase the fact that they’ve been broken before. “All the time during our breakup, just think of it as a long night. Towards you, my heart is still yearning like this.”
Relationship
works both ways, and so is getting back together. It won’t work if only one of
the two who wants to start over. It takes both of them to be able to meet in
the halfway. No matter how much they long for each other, no matter how deep
the love they still have to each other, nothing can change the fact that
they’ve been hurt and in pain. It takes more than just love to be able to get
back together. It takes faith. And that’s the hardest part. “So, why are you being hesitant? Just don’t
look back. More than the days we spent apart, there are days to come for us to
spend together.” For two people who believe that they’re meant to be
together, no matter how bad their breakup was, all they need is a faith, that
they’re gonna make it. “Are you trying to
come back to me again? Like the way you are now, you just have to come to me.”
