Lean on Me

I
have a little brother. He’s eight years younger than me and it feels just like
yesterday when he used to crawl around the floor, asking for food with
alien-like language that I didn’t understand (and he cried out of frustration
because I didn’t understand that he asked for food). Feels just like yesterday
when he started to walk, and suddenly run around the house. Feels just like
yesterday when I used to make him crying by teasing him a lot (and I never get
enough of it, though our Mom scolded me a lot too for that). However, it was
the real yesterday, when my lil brother turned 17. Yup, already. I was choked
up, realizing how time flies. He’s an official young adult now, I understand,
yet somehow deep inside my heart I still see him as my baby brother that I need
to take care of and worry about. So I dedicate this writing for him (okay, it’s
the first time I write for him actually). No matter how tall you grow and how
old you are, you’ll always be my “little” brother in my heart and mind. And I’ll
always be willing to do anything and effort everything for you. And you can
always lean on me. Thanks for being born as my baby brother.
“Sometimes
in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow. But, if we are wise, we
know that there’s always tomorrow.” –Michael Bolton, Lean On Me
Dedicated
to my beloved younger brother is a classic hit titled “Lean On Me” as today’s
song for Moments Of Our Lives. It was
performed by American legendary singer, Michael Bolton, and released in 1994 as
the fifth single taken from his album, “The One Thing”. The album was released
on November 16th 1993. “Lean On Me” was originally sung by Bill Withers and
first released on April 21st 1972 as the first single from his second album,
“Still Bill”. Numerous cover versions have been recorded since then, including
Bolton’s version.

As
I’ve mentioned above, today’s song is dedicated to my younger brother. The
lyrics of “Lean On Me” spread the spirit of togetherness; together we stand,
apart we fall, as in a family. “Sometimes
in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow. But, if we are wise, we
know that there’s always tomorrow.” Living the life itself is a lonely
thing to do. Though we were born, and we will die, alone, we live the life by
having family and friends. Though we don’t have one, we can make ones. A true
family and friends are the ones that people can lean on. Whenever life gets
hard and rough. Wherever there’s no place seems like home on this earth. Family
and friends are there to soothe your weary soul. Family and friends are there
to make you feel at home. “Please swallow
your pride, if I have things you need to borrow. For no one can fill, those of
your needs that you won’t let show.” In front of true family and friends,
there’s no need to play tough. With the sense of belonging, there won’t be any
discomfort towards each other.
“Lean on me, when
you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. For it
won’t be long, till I’m gonna need someone to lean on.”
The moment when my little brother was born, I didn’t understand what it was
really mean to be a sister. As the time passes by, I begin to understand.
Through every moment we’ve been spending together, I learn to understand what
it’s really mean to be a sister. “You can
call on me brother when you need a hand, we all need somebody to lean on. I
just might have a problem that you’ll understand, we all need somebody to lean
on.” He’s there to give meaning for me, that I could be a place for someone
in this world to lean on. When the time gets too hard for him to bear, when the
life seems so unfriendly, he knows where to find me, at the very least. And
I’ll be there whenever he calls, because that’s what family is for. “If there is a load you have to bear that you
can’t carry, I’m right up the road, I’ll share your load. If you just call me,
call me. If you need a friend, call me.”
