Stronger

Some people are stronger at broken places. Well, don’t remember who said that and where I saw that but I definitely saw that somewhere written by someone. Well said, though. It began with “World breaks people”, some kind of like that, and then ended with “some are stronger at broken places.” It’s the third day of May and a thought comes into my mind; have I become stronger enough than yesterday? Well, maybe enough is never enough. Every human has its limit, I know, but how can we know that we already reach our limits? Could we be stronger than we ever thought that we could be? I guess I know why it does say that world breaks people and some are stronger at broken places. Because sometimes, people are getting stronger not because they want to be, but because they need to be. Because they have to be. Because they must be.
“Stronger
than yesterday, now it’s nothing but my way. My loneliness ain’t killing me no
more, I’m stronger.” –Britney Spears, Stronger
Here
is today’s song for Free Spirit:
“Stronger” by Britney Spears, the always Princess
of Pop. The dance pop song was released on November 13th 2000 and served as
third single released from her second studio album, “Oops!... I Did It Again”. “Stronger”
was written by Max Martin and Rami. The song has self-empowerment lyrics
about a girl who is tired of sick love relationship and decides to live without
it. Its lyrics also quote Spears’ iconic debut hit “...Baby One More Time”,
which its famous chorus, “My loneliness is killing me”, is answered in “Stronger”
with the lyric, “My loneliness ain’t killin’ me no more”. “Stronger” also
achieved commercial success worldwide.

We’re all alone. We’ve been alone before. We’re alone now. We’ll be alone later on. So what? Perhaps we’re better off alone. Loneliness ain’t killing anyway. Because we’re stronger than yesterday. And that’s what “Stronger” tells about; a declaration of independence. For some people, it takes some times until they become stronger. But they eventually get there. Mostly because of one life-changing moment that triggers them to realize. They need to be stronger to move on. They have to. “Hush, just stop, there’s nothing you can do or say. I’ve had enough, I’m not your property as from today. You might think that I won't make it on my own, but now I’m stronger.” For some people, it takes some times until they gain that power. The power to look at the bigger picture. That it’s not about seeing themselves as just the way they are, but the way they could be. That they need to be stronger to be free. That they must be.
“I’m stronger than I ever thought that I
could be. I used to go with the flow, didn’t really care ‘bout me. You might
think that I can’t take it, but you’re wrong, ‘cause now I’m stronger.” Yes
it needs some times to get there, to become stronger. Indeed life is a never
ending process. Losing love isn’t the end of the world. Being along isn’t the
beginning of the apocalypse. “Stronger
than yesterday, now it’s nothing but my way. My loneliness ain’t killing me no
more, I’m stronger.” Perhaps being alone is all we need right now; to think
and see things clearly, to contemplate and think things through, to realize
that there’s more to life. Moreover, to free ourselves from any strangling
thing, to let go, to move on, to be stronger than yesterday. “Here I go, on my own, I don’t need nobody,
better off alone. Here I go, on my own now, I don’t need nobody, not anybody.”

Britney Spears on the "Stronger" music video - source: usmagazine.com |
The music video for “Stronger” was directed by Joseph Kahn, who revealed that the concept for the music video was created by Spears herself, as she demanded three must-have elements in the video: dance in a chair, drive in a car, and break up with a boyfriend. In an interview, Kahn also considered the music video as very sophisticated, saying, “Definitely a departure from the sort of candy-colored videos she was doing before, so I always thought this was the transition between Britney the teenage pop star and Britney the sort of diva she became.” I’m always a big fan of Spears, and I have to say; this is how a diva was born, stronger than ever, this is the spirit.

“Ooh
hey, yeah
Hush,
just stop, there’s nothing you can do or say, baby
I’ve
had enough, I’m not your property as from today, baby
You
might think that I won't make it on my own, but now I’m
Stronger
than yesterday, now it’s nothing but my way
My
loneliness ain’t killing me no more, I’m stronger
Than
I ever thought that I could be, baby
I
used to go with the flow, didn’t really care ‘bout me
You
might think that I can’t take it, but you’re wrong, ‘cause now I’m
Come
on, now, oh, yeah
Here
I go, on my own, I don’t need nobody, better off alone
Here
I go, on my own now, I don’t need nobody, not anybody
Here
I go, alright, here I go”
