That Man, That Woman

Some relationships just can’t work. But ones can always learn a lot from it. Some relationships just come to an end. But ones always earn something from it. Lost and Found. When a relationship can’t work, there’s always two people who reflect. When a relationship comes to an end, there’s always two people who got hurt. After a relationship ends, there’s always two people who reminisce. The man and the woman, through their own perspectives. Whether it’s the one who leaves or being left, it hurts. Whether it’s the one who betrays or being betrayed, it hurts. Whether it’s the one who breaks or being broken, it hurts. Separation hurts both sides. But unhealthy relationship hurts more. As time goes by, trust can go to waste, and love can be in vain. When a relationship just can’t work, perhaps it better comes to an end. There will come a day when we look back at that day, and there’s no pain that’s left anymore, and no regret too, because at least we know that what we had back then was real, though it’s over now.
“Just
in case you come back to me, I absolutely can’t love anyone else. You need to
take responsibility for making a woman cry. What do you know about a woman’s
heart?” –Vibe feat. Jang Hye Jin, That
Man, That Woman (그남자,
그여자)
Today’s
song for Lost and Found is a song
performed by Korean ballad duo consisted of Yoon Min Soo and Ryu Jae Hyun,
Vibe, in collaboration with female soloist, Jang Hye Jin, titled “That Man,
That Woman (그남자, 그여자)”. The male-female
duet ballad song was released on February 3rd 2006 as a part of Vibe’s third
studio album, “Re-Feel”. This song is a bitter-sweet ballad track about two
people that have been separated and can’t seem to move on yet from one another,
as they keep reminiscing and questioning about why and how they end up being
apart. “That Man, That Woman (그남자, 그여자)” was a big hit during
the time, as it topped the charts for several weeks and won many music awards.

As it’s a duet, the lyrics are written from two perspectives; the man and the woman. It’s about how they feel right after their separation. Surprisingly, they feel the same. “Just in case you come back to me, I absolutely can’t love anyone else. You need to take responsibility for making a man cry. What do you know about a man’s heart? The woman who left when I gave her my all. The woman who took everything that I had. The woman whom I really did love at one time. I just believed in everything like a fool. I guess women are all the same.” They feel the same sadness, anger, disappoinment, loss, emptiness. And a little hope in it, that one of them would come back for the other. “Just in case you come back to me, I absolutely can’t love anyone else. You need to take responsibility for making a woman cry. What do you know about a woman’s heart? The man who left when I gave him my all. The man who took everything that I had. The man whom I really did love at one time. I just believed in everything like a fool. I guess men are all the same.”
Both
the man and the woman then come to a wonder; if they did crazy in love with
each other back then, then how did it become this way? If they’re both hurt,
then why did it has to be this way? “We
loved each other like crazy, didn’t we?” As they reminisce, they realize,
they left each other after giving their all, after taking everything from each
other. As they remember, they figure out, they just believed in each other
without understanding each other’s heart. “The
man who left when I gave him my all. The man who didn’t know anything about my
heart. The man whom I really did love at one time. I just believed in
everything like a fool.” In the end, reality hits them hard. That no one is
coming back for the others. That they have to face the truth. It’s all over.
All that was meant to be happened had happened. They just didn’t know that
their love would hurt them so bad like this. They just didn’t know that their
love would end in vain like this. But now they know. And everything becomes a
part of their past now. “Back then, we
didn’t know that love’s meant separation. I didn’t even know it would be like
this. We just believed in everything, both of us.”
Vibe’s
vocalist, Yoon Min Soo’s voice went so well with Jang Hye Jin’s voice in “That
Man, That Woman (그남자, 그여자)”. Yoon’s husky yet
soulful vocal made a perfect harmony with Jang’s soft yet heart-wrenching
vocal, which living up the melancholic and heart-breaking feelings of song. Many
junior singers have made a remake of this duet song, including male soloist Huh
Gak and Jung Eunji from girl group Apink, who performed “That Man, That Woman (그남자, 그여자)”
wonderfully in a television music show. Anyway, this song was originally
beautiful, so it’s not a big surprise that the remakes would be beautiful too.
