Sugar Free

People say that relationship is a worth-riding roller coaster. Well, is it? I had a long-term relationship once, long before I have this long-term single now. What I remember clearly about my past long-term relationship, besides the painful and heartbreaking break-up, is the roller coaster riding. Yup, the ups and downs, the highs and lows. There were so many, many times when we were at the edge of break-up, before the actual break-up of course. And during those times, somehow we could make it. But the process wasn’t easy, it was very rough actually. Looking back at those moments again now, I realize that a long-lasting relationship needs not only stability, but also sparks. Things that could keep the butterflies in stomach, the warm fuzzy feeling, the fluttering heart; things that could make us falling in love all over again with that person. It’s the thing that keeps the love alive, the sweet sugar of the relationship. Because when a relationship goes sugar free, that’s when everything starts falling apart. That’s when it’s dying.
“I’m
finally telling you this. No, it’s not just a thing, but I miss it. The
sweetness you used to give me before, it’s not there anymore. But, will it be
there in the next time? Those words, that face, every single thing.”
–T-ara, Sugar Free
Today
I feel like heating it up with a dance music. So now, the song for My Choices: Continue Living today is an
electronic dance music, well-known as EDM, song titled “Sugar Free”. It was
performed by Korean girl group, T-ara, and served as the lead single of their
sixth mini album, titled “And & End”. The big room genre song was written,
composed, and arranged by Korean prominent music producer, Shinsadong Tiger,
along with Beom & Nang.

Talking
about a relationship that has lost its sparks, it’s what the lyrics of “Sugar
Free” are about; like a tea without sugar, the relationship now feels like it’s
sugar free. “How could you change like
this? The sweet feelings are not so good anymore now. Is it always been like
this? I close my eyes, I’m still confused, it’s sugar free.” Women are
sensitive, and they can sense it when everything starts to change, even in the
slightest. The sweetness that is not there anymore, that is fading, they can
feel it, and they long for it. Yet somehow, they still wonder whether it will
be back in the next time, if there’s still a next time. The thing is, all of
those changes are confusing them. What is happening? What is it all about? How
could this happen? Why does this happen? When everything was so right and
bright in the beginning, how could the ending is so dark and heavy like this?
And the worst part is, they can feel it fading yet can do nothing about it. “What can I do right now? What is this
feeling? The sweetness you used to give me is now wearing out, it’s not there
anymore. I can’t feel it, in your words, in your face, in every single thing. I
hate the sugar free.”
Now,
the relationship is sugar free. The love is sugar free. The lover is sugar
free. It’s bitter, and it’s killing her inside. “You’re sugar free, now you’re sugar free, only to me you’re sugar
free, everything is sugar free. Why do you make my heart aching more and more?
You keep hurting me like this, all the sweetness has been lost away.” With
one significant fragment is missing from the relationship, it’s all breaking
down. He’s no longer coming to her even when she’s calling. He’s no longer
looking at her even when she’s begging. He’s no longer staying for her even
when she’s needing. When the love is no longer there, what is it that you’re
still holding onto? Well, it’s time to let go, isn’t it? Go and find some
sugar. “You’re sugar free, now you’re
sugar free, only to me you’re sugar free, everything is sugar free. It’s only
you who could throw me into the oblivion in just one moment. This all is what
you’ve done, something feels missing, it’s sugar free.”

The
mini album was released on September 11th 2014. Though the album and “Sugar
Free” were well-received, it seemed like South Korea’s public were still
affected by T-ara’s past bullying scandal, because the song didn’t make to the
top of television music charts. Even so, I always a fan of their music,
especially those which were written by Shinsadong Tiger. For me personally,
“Sugar Free” was a great and satisfying comeback. The club music is so
addictive, and I hope T-ara could keep it up and come back again stronger than
before.
“What
is this all about? What exactly is this? So, the beginning was light, but the
end is heavy. It becomes heavier, I wonder if my body is really my own. I’m still
confused, it’s sugar free.” –T-ara, Sugar
