The World's Greatest
The
26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, once said; believe you
can and you’re halfway there. It’s the power of mind, The Remembered and The Forgotten; once you can control your mind,
you can believe, and so you can do anything. As Nikos Kazantzakis had said,
that in order to succeed, we must first believe that we can. Believe that life
is worth living and your belief will help create the fact. That one’s by
William James.
“I am
a mountain. I am a tall tree. I am a swift wind sweeping the country. I am a
river down in the valley. I am a vision and I can see clearly.” –R.
Kelly, The World’s Greatest (OST. Ali)
First
heard this song as a BGM in Korean variety program, KBS’ “The Return of
Superman”, during the scene where Song Il Gook taking care of his triplets, I
fell in love right at the moment with this song. It’s a song titled “The
World’s Greatest”, performed by R. Kelly. It was released as a single on
February 18th 2002, and served as a soundtrack for the 2001 movie titled “Ali”.
It was a biographical movie of the legendary world champion boxer, Muhammad
Ali, where the titular character was portrayed by actor Will Smith.
“The
World’s Greatest” is a song about hope and spirit; a message to motivate people
to love and respect themselves, that we are beautiful in our own way, that we
are the greatest. “I saw the light at the
end of a tunnel. Believe in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And
faith was right there to pull me through. Used to be locked doors, now I can
just walk on through.” It’s a message to encourage people to believe, for
dreaming and fighting, for not letting anyone stands in the way, for having
hopes, for standing tall. “If anybody
asks you who I am, just stand up tall, look them in the face and say; I’m that
star up in the sky, I’m that mountain peak up high, hey, I made it, I’m the
worlds greatest. And I’m that little bit of hope when my back’s against the
ropes, I can feel it, I’m the world’s greatest.”
Besides
being a part of “Ali: Original Soundtrack” album, “The World’s Greatest” was
also appeared on the bonus disc version of Kelly’s album titled “Chocolate
Factory”. The R n’ B song was written and produced by R. Kelly himself, and he
was totally inspired by Muhammad Ali when writing the song (“The Greatest” is one
of Ali’s nicknames). The beautiful melody combines perfectly with Kelly’s
soulful voice. Moreover, the choir’s harmony adds the heartfelt element of this
song. It’s one of a kind, very comforting in its own way.
“I am
a giant. I am an eagle. I am a lion down in the jungle. I am a marching band. I
am the people. I am a helping hand and I am a hero.” –R. Kelly, The World’s Greatest (OST. Ali)
“It’s
the world’s greatest, it’s the world’s greatest, come on, world’s greatest ever
I
am a mountain, I am a tall tree, I am a swift wind sweeping the country
I
am a river down in the valley, I am a vision and I can see clearly
If
anybody asks you who I am, just stand up tall, look them in the face and say
I’m
that star up in the sky, I’m that mountain peak up high
Hey,
I made it, I’m the worlds greatest
And
I’m that little bit of hope when my back’s against the ropes
I
can feel it, I’m the world’s greatest
I
am a giant, I am an eagle, I am a lion down in the jungle
I
am a marching band, I am the people, I am a helping hand and I am a hero
If
anybody asks you who I am, just stand up tall, look them in the face and say
In
the ring of life I'll reign love (I will reign) and the world will notice a
king (oh, yeah)
When
all is darkest, I'll shine a light (shine a light) and mirrors of success
reflect in me (me)
It’s
the greatest, can you feel it? It’s the greatest, can you feel it?
I
saw the light at the end of a tunnel
Believe
in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
And
faith was right there to pull me through
Used
to be locked doors, now I can just walk on through
It’s
the greatest, I’m that star up in the sky”
