The Way Love Used to Be
Shannon
L. Alder said that every relationship that has hit a crossroads has asked,
“What is it that you want from me?” Contemplation; that’s what people mostly do
after having a big fight or even a break-up. What is it that you really want
from the relationship itself? Is it really worth fighting for? She also said
that all great beginnings start in the dark, when the moon greets us to a new
day at midnight. It means that a big fight or even a break-up in a relationship
doesn’t always mean the end of it. Instead, it could be the beginning of a
great ending for both; The Remembered and
The Forgotten. In her book titled “Born Ready: Unleash Your Inner Dream
Girl”, Jennifer Elisabeth stated, “Starting over can be the scariest thing in
the entire world, whether it’s leaving a lover, a school, a team, a friend or
anything else that feels like a core part of our identity but when your gut is
telling you that something here isn’t right or feels unsafe, I really want you
to listen and trust in that voice.” So don’t be afraid to start over.
“Should
I tell you I love you? Should we start again? I know you better than anyone
else, so when I see you’re hurt, I’m hurt too. Should I tell you to come back?
Back to me, the one you were most comfortable with. It can’t be the end of our
love from back then.” –Park Shi Hwan, The Way We Loved (그때 우리 사랑은)
[OST. Emergency Couple]
I’ve
prepared a song that will brighten up your beginning of this year, with this
medium-fast tempo and exciting melody, from a song titled “The Way We Loved (그때
우리
사랑은)”.
Performed by Superstar K5’s
runner-up, Park Shi Hwan, the song was served as a soundtrack for tvN’s
romantic comedy drama series, “Emergency Couple” (2014). The pop dynamic song
was first released as a single “Emergency Couple OST Part 3” on February 21st
2014, and later became a part of album “Emergency Couple OST” which was
released on April 18th 2014.

“The Way We Loved (그때 우리 사랑은)” is a song about a man who asks for his ex-lover to get back together and start their relationship all over again. During his time alone after the break-up, finally he can see clearly what makes their relationship isn’t working before. They were both young and made many mistakes back then. Now as they meet again, with more mature thoughts and personalities, he thinks that it’s worth trying to build the broken relationship again. “I wasn’t ready for this love, and I didn’t know what breaking up was. Now I know, but my regret comes too late, though I think I can do better now.” The chance is there, and he bravely grabs it. “Words that came spilling out, and deep scars that left, I was bad at everything. Finally I see it, if only I’m given a chance.” He believes that love is not over yet, and that’s the way they loved. Indeed, when people grow up, they tend to see things more clearly, and understand love more deeply; that love is more than just fluttering butterflies in stomach, but what’s more important is being comfortable with the person and the love itself. “Yes, now I finally know, how love can exist even after the butterflies are gone. I guess this is just the beginning of my love.”
The
melody of the song has a mixed of rock and ballad in it, which I love so much.
And I especially love how the pop melody is incorporated with the orchestra
sound. That’s why “The Way We Loved (그때 우리
사랑은)”
has made it into the list of 7 Best K-Drama Soundtracks of 2014. Moreover, Park Shi Hwan’s vocal stands
out and goes well with the melody. Not to mention that, of course, the lyrics
are suited so well too with the drama series storyline. It’s a great soundtrack
and Park is such a lovable singer; hope to see him more in the future.
“Back
then, I didn’t like getting used to it all. My heart was too heavy to beat
again. We made a promise before the world, but how did we get so far apart?”
