Missing
Every
second of our lives brings a lesson. Before starting this new year, have you
asked yourself whether you are ready or not? Have you asked yourself whether
you’ve learned enough from the past year? Mandy Hale once said in her book,
that even seasonal situation can bring people lessons that last a lifetime. If
the love doesn’t last, it prepares you for the one that will. Ready or not,
time keeps on ticking and days keep on passing. It’s okay to be afraid whenever
you’re about to take another step, but never retreat from overcoming the fear.
It’s okay to take a look back on the past before you move on to the future, but
never be scared of leaving it all behind. The
Remembered and The Forgotten, the lesson you learn; that’s the storyline
you choose for the history of your own life.
“I’m
just a little tired, but I’m all right, no, actually that’s not true. I still
hate you, who have let me go. My frozen heart still yearns for you, I’m missing
you.” –2NE1, Missing You (그리워해요)
Continuing
the previous post, we’re still in the moment of contemplation now, as I will
write about a beautiful song by one of Korean girl group front-runners, 2NE1.
This song is titled “Missing You (그리워해요)”. It was released as a single with the
same name on November 21st 2013. Written by the infamous composer Teddy Park,
it’s a hip-hop ballad with a slow-medium tempo. Unlike other 2NE1’s fierce and dynamic
songs, this one is very melancholic and heart-drenching. Yet it became one of
their successful hits, as it showcased the other side of CL, Sandara, Park Bom,
and Minzy, their vocal strength, and maturity.
“Missing
You (그리워해요)”
is a song about someone who meets the first love that had gone away and bids
the last farewell. When it comes to the first love, it’s always hard to meet
them again, moreover when the love had ended painfully and we had become
estranged. No matter how hard we try to be comfortable and calm, we just can’t.
There are so many thoughts inside. We met them during our youth days when love
goes on and off quickly, but that was not the thing for us. It doesn’t go off
quickly like that. “I don’t want the youth’s
love that’s like playing with fire. I’m just trembling a bit, but I’m all
right, no, actually that’s not true.” No matter how hard we try to face
them with a bright smile, we just can’t. There are so many thoughts inside. Now
we meet them during our mature days when love is calculative, but that’s not
the thing for us. It can’t be calculated like that. “I don’t want the adult’s love that is already calculated. I’m just a
little tired, but I’m all right, no, actually that’s not true.” It’s a
dilemma; meeting someone whom we always long for all this years yet we know it
so well that it won’t work if we get back together with them again. But, it has
to be done, in order for us to be able to move on with our lives. Meet them and
tell them how we feel, without having any hope. Say goodbye and wish them
happiness. That’s how the memorable first love ends. And all that remain now is
just a memory from that time when there was still ‘us’.
Truth
to be told, I’m not a fan of 2NE1. I enjoy their music yet that fact doesn’t
motivate me to like them as public figures or idols. Therefore I wasn’t
attracted to this song when it was released at first. So how this song came to
me in the end? It was when 2NE1’s junior label-mates, WINNER, did an acoustic
cover of “Missing You (그리워해요)”.
Thanks to them, I got to know this beautiful song, though still it’s not enough
to make me a fan of 2NE1 (no offense, Blackjack). Hence, it’s every singer’s
dream to have their music enjoyed by people, right? So I guess 2NE1 is a true
idols after all. Thanks for this great inspirative song.

until a long time has passed by, let’s remember each other, that we had each
other back then.” –2NE1, Missing
