Outside the Window
“When
I stand by the window, the image of your pale hands come to me like tears. When
I stand on the street like the wind, tears fall as I turn around and close my
eyes. And there you stay by my side like a street light.” –Cho Yong
Pil, Woman Outside the Window [translated
lyrics]

Program
acara musik “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend” menampilkan edisi spesial “International Music Festival” pada
episode 151.
Pil, yang bertajuk “Woman Outside the Window”.
There’s always
something in Cho Yong Pil’s song-lyrics that could make me ponder for a while
before I could understand the meaning of it. This also happens when I try to figure out
what the lyric of “Woman Outside the Window” is about. The lyric is so poetical, but
I guess the main point is laid on the first bar of the chorus part. “Who
said that love is beautiful?” This one
sentence explains all. This one
question that contains irony; beautiful
yet painful love. And then I realize
that “Woman Outside the Window” is a song about an unrequited love. The phrase ‘outside the window’ is a
metaphor of a love that can’t be reached; an out of reach love. “When I stand by the window, the image of
your pale hands come to me like tears. When I stand on the street like the
wind, tears fall as I turn around and close my eyes. And there you stay by my
side like a street light.” The love is
always there but we can never see it. It
is never there but we always can feel it. This sad situation put us into a devastation and frustration, so that we’d rather sleep and fall into
dream, rather than awake and face the
cruel reality. “Who said that love is beautiful? With your pale hands, I’d
rather you just put me into sleep.”
The One ketika membawakan lagu "Woman Outside the Window" pada program "Immortal Songs 2" episode 151 |
Cukup
the Window”. Lagu ballad folk-rock
80-an. The One, penyanyi yang bernama asli Jung Sun Won, membawakan “Woman
ballad. As a singer with a voice that
appeals to our emotion, The One had
successfully brought “Woman Outside the Window” to the next level.
