“Don’t cry for me, don’t be sad for me. Don’t stare at me like that, it looks as if you’ve lost the meanings of life. Don’t love me, it’s too late now. Don’t wait for me with a yearning, because our love is over.” –Lee Eun Ha, The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile [translated lyrics]

She’s a singer who represents the 1980s. She has so many hit songs of different genres and also initiated the disco craze in the 1980s. With her husky voice, she seized the hearts of men. Ia membawakan salah satu lagu hits Lee Eun Ha yang bertajuk “The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile”, atau yang dikenal juga dengan judul “Sending Me Off With That Smile” dan “Just Like The Way You Smiled and Sent Me Off”.
“The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile” is a song about a woman who breakups with her boyfriend she almost married. This story was based on Lee Eun Ha personal experience. Their relationship didn’t work because the family opposed, yet this man tried to get back with her after letting her go and being separated. “Don’t cry for me, don’t be sad for me. Don’t stare at me like that, it looks as if you’ve lost the meanings of life. Don’t love me, it’s too late now. Don’t wait for me with a yearning, because our love is over.” It’s sad and anger at the same time. It’s satisfaction and disappointment at the same time. And one question hits her hard, why did you leave me when you’re going to regret it like this? Why did I have to go through all those pains? But it’s too late now, because it’s all over. There’s no point in begging now, because there’s no more love that left. As much as it hurts back then, as much as she wants to live happily now. “Why did you just let me leave like that back then? If only I know that you would regret it like this, I wouldn’t have been lost in that painful time. Now there’s no more love left in me. I can’t feel anything at all anymore, just like the image of the way you let me leave with a smile.”

Ditulis liriknya oleh Lee Eun Ha sendiri berdasarkan pengalaman pribadinya, “The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile” dikomposisi dan diaransemen musiknya oleh almarhum Jang Deok. Jang Deok was a talented singer-songwriter that was gone too soon, a fallen star at the age of 28 who passed away in 1990. At the age of 15, she became the youngest songwriter, and she was also the first-ever woman singer, songwriter, and producer. Dalam episode tersebut, lagu “The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile” dibawakan oleh aktor panggung teater musikal, Kim Da Hyun.

Bada, the popular female singer, berhadapan dengan Moon Myung Jin, the popular male singer. Mereka merefleksikan Hyeeuni dan Lee Eun Ha, the ultimate two rivaling divas who represent the 1980s. Bada, solois wanita bernama asli Choi Sung Hee ini mewakili Lee Eun Ha dengan lagu “The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile”.
“The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile” is known as the most beloved of all Lee Eun Ha’s ballad. It’s considered as the late Jang Deok’s masterpiece. While Lee Eun Ha wrote the lyrics based on her true experience, Jang Deok composed the music and gave it to Lee Eun Ha. The original version of this song is a slow rock ballad with blues feeling within. It was first been released in 1986, only four years before Jang Deok passed away. Since then, it was remade by many famous junior artists. On episode 45, Sung Hoon reenacted this song with refined jazz arrangement. Meanwhile Kim Da Hyun showed a short musical performance with rock ballad rendition of this song on episode 92. And finally on episode 134, Bada did a modern pop arrangement with medium upbeat tempo.

Dari seluruh penampilan yang ada, kesemuanya menunjukkan warna dan karakter mereka masing-masing sebagai penyanyi, which was so great. Personally, I prefer Kim Da Hyun’s arrangement because rock ballad is my favorite genre. In term of performance, no doubt that Bada was fantastic. Even an amazing occasion happened on episode 134. For the second time in “Immortal Songs 2” history after Im Tae Kyung and Taemin on episode 40, Bada and Moon Myung Jin got tied points with 392. Therefore they won the part 1 of “The Rival” special edition together. Indeed, “The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile” is an immortal song that won’t be lasted by time.

“Why did you just let me leave like that back then? If only I know that you would regret it like this, I wouldn’t have been lost in that painful time. Now there’s no more love left in me. I can’t feel anything at all anymore, just like the image of your way letting me leave with a smile.” –Lee Eun Ha, The Image Of You Letting Me Leave With A Smile [translated lyrics]

“I love you. I loved you too much. I’ve lived my life for you, please don’t forget that. I’ve watched over you and waited for you, and only longed for you. Remember that you’re the only one for me.” –Lee Seung Chul, You’re The Only One For Me [translated lyrics]

Penyanyi bernama asli Kim Hyung Soo ini membawakan salah satu lagu hits Lee Seung Chul yang bertajuk “You’re The Only One For Me”.
“You’re The Only One For Me” is a song about someone who can’t seem to forget their past lover. And as much as they long for that person, they hope that the person also remembers them. Because no matter how long they’ve tried so hard, that one crucial moment is enough to shatter all struggles back to zero. Because no matter how many nights have passed, that one lonely cold night is enough to bring all memories back to mind. “I still can’t forget you, I hold back the tears that flow without reason, I’ve tried my best to forget you. On that dark winter night when it was raining, I almost forgot those eyes but now they come back.” Even though they understand so well that the person might not feeling the same as them, they couldn’t help but hoping that the person will always remember. Even if that person comes back to them now, all the pain from separation don’t matter anymore. “In the time that has passed, you’ve probably forgotten me, you’ve worked hard to seem happy. It’s okay to cry, just come to me, I’m leaving for your sake but come back to me, I still love you.” One thing for sure is that the love is still there. “One day, long after you’ve gone, the pain of parting, the feeling of being alone, the sadness that won’t go away.” One thing for sure is that the person is the only one for them. “I love you. I loved you too much. I’ve lived my life for you, please don’t forget that. I’ve watched over you and waited for you, and only longed for you. Remember that you’re the only one for me.”

And indeed, “You’re The Only One For Me” itself is an everlasting love song.

“Even though I asked you to stay by my side, you left me with nothing but pain. I will never be able to let you go, even after a long time has passed. When I miss you on a cold windy night, I dial your number on the phone, but I can’t seem to let the call go through. Can you feel the pain I go through?” –015B, On An Empty Street [translated lyrics]

Program acara musik “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend” episode 117 merupakan edisi spesial “The Heartthrob is Back!” bagian kedua. Mereka berdua menampilkan salah satu lagu hits 015B yang bertajuk “On An Empty Street”.
“On An Empty Street”is a song about loneliness. It’s about someone’s desperate longing for the one they love. The one who left although they’ve told them to stay. The one who couldn’t be forgotten although time has gone by. The one who’s been engraved so deep within their heart. “Even though I asked you to stay by my side, you left me with nothing but pain. I will never be able to let you go, even after a long time has passed.” There are times when the longing can’t be helped. Those are times when their desperation leads them to call that person. And so, they end up dialing up that person’s phone number. Hence, no matter how hard they try, they can’t bring themselves to make that one phone call. Simply yet deeply because the pain is still there. And it’s killing them. “When I miss you on a cold windy night, I dial your number on the phone, but I can’t seem to let the call go through. Can you feel the pain I go through?” As much as they want to avoid, that longing gets deeper instead. And finally, after a long thinking and wondering, they gather up their courage to call that person. “Even though the reflection of me on the window looks hopeless as ever, I want to hear your voice tonight, so I promise myself to call you.” While saying that they love that person, they tremble and tears fall. But in the end, there’s no answer. And here they are, left in despair and loneliness, on a cold empty street, in a cold windy night. “As I pick the phone up, I tremble to say that I love you with tears falling down on my face, but no one answers me back, and I’m left with just two lonely coins in my hands.”

Dirilis pertama kali pada tanggal 15 Juli 1990 sebagai debut song sekaligus title song dari album perdana 015B, versi original lagu “On An Empty Street” menampilkan Yoon Jong Shin sebagai vokalisnya. 015B was a producer group that invited guest singers. Made their debut in 1990 with Yoon Jong Shin as their first vocalist, they sang with stylish arrangements and beautiful lyrics. And now, the emotional song is reborn with the powerful ballad vocalist, Kim Yong Jin. His husky and sweet voice goes well with the song’s melancholic melody. And also, it’s nostalgic lyrics bring back old memories. Indeed, the song “On An Empty Street” itself is a classic that hard to resist its charm.
