Six Degrees of Separation
“You’ve read the books, you’ve
watched the shows, what’s the best way no one knows. Meditate, get hypnotized,
anything to take from your mind but it won’t go. You’re doing all these things
out of desperation. You’re going through six degrees of separation.”
–The Script, Six Degrees of Separation
The musical heroes for all men who can’t be moved, The Script, released their third studio album back on September 7th,
“Six Degrees of Separation” is a song about post-breakup syndrome. It depicts that a broken hearted person gets
through six degrees of separation. First,
being drowned in sadness and desperation.
Second, trying everything to get rid of that person from your mind, even things that might kill yourself, such as smoking and drinking. “You hit
the drink, you take a toke, watch the past go up in smoke. Fake a smile, lie
and say that, you’re better now than ever, and your life’s okay when it’s not.
You’re doing all these things out of desperation. You’re going through six
degrees of separation.” Third, realizing that everything you’ve tried is no
used. Fourth, thinking that everything is going to be just
fine.

“You tell your friends, strangers too, anyone who’ll throw an arm around you. Tarot cards, gems and stones, believing all that shit is gonna heal your soul, well it’s not. No, you’re only doing things out of desperation. No, you’re going through six degrees of separation.” Fifth, knowing that the person is already moved on while you’re still at the same exact place. “No, there’s no starting over, without finding closure. You’d take them back, no hesitation. That’s when you know you’ve reached the sixth degree of separation.” Sixth, finally understand that you’re already broken, and no one’s going to fix that except yourself. “No, there ain’t no help, it’s every man for himself.”
Sebuah music video (MV) untuk lagu “Six Degrees of Separation” dirilis
pada tanggal 5 November 2012 di akun Youtube resmi milik The Script. “Six
Degrees of Separation” diciptakan oleh Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan, Steve
Kipner, dan Andrew Frampton. Even though
this song wasn’t obtain a commercial success and positive critical reviews,
I found this song enjoyable, just like their other hits such as “Nothing”
and “Dead Man Walking”. Although it’s
still not as good as “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “Breakeven”, it’s worth-hearing and it’s very ‘The
Script’.
“First, you think the worst is a
broken heart. What’s gonna kill you is the second part. And the third, is when
your world splits down the middle. And fourth, you’re gonna think that you
fixed yourself. Fifth, you see them out with someone else. And the sixth, is
when you admit you may have fucked up a little.” –The Script, Six Degrees of Separation
