When we were children, we wanted to grow up quickly; thinking that being a grown up would give us freedom of everything. But then time flies, and we realize that it’s a very big deal about being a grown up; and we don’t always get anything that we want. And now that we’ve grown up, we won’t make a rush for growing old; because we understand that it’s a very bigger deal about being old. The elders, I bet they would give up anything just to be able to go back to their youth. So, as youngsters, why shouldn’t we be grateful for what we are now? There won’t be any more freedom than what we have now. My mother always says, to do what we want to do and what we think is right while we’re young, because no matter what, it’s what will define our future and we can’t go back to undo or redo it, and once we decide to do something, then do it our best and with all of our hearts. Well, we won’t be youth forever. So, while we’re young, let’s be free and growing strong, more than ever.

One day the world will be gone, there’ll be no one here to walk the land. One day what you know will be wrong, there’ll be no one here to hold your hand. Right now we’re crazy youngsters. Time is running out, but who cares, we’re running free.” –Ester Dean, Crazy Youngsters [OST. Pitch Perfect 2]

Today’s song for Growing Strong is dedicated to all youngsters around the globe, a song titled “Crazy Youngsters”, performed by American singer-songwriter Ester Dean. She wrote the track for the soundtrack to musical comedy film “Pitch Perfect 2”, in which she also starred as one of the Barden Bellas member, Cynthia Rose Adams. It was played during the ending credit title of the movie.

It’s not easy being youngsters. The elders are always underestimated towards us somehow. They always find it hard to believe us somehow. They tend to doubt and belittle us. Well, in my opinion, being older doesn’t mean they know better, and being younger doesn’t mean we less understand. It’s just that they have the chance to know earlier. And since we know later, let’s take it as a chance to know better. Though they think we’re crazy, let’s make it the awesomely crazy. The lyrics of “Crazy Youngsters” speak up about how youngsters should embrace their youth and make the greatest out of it. “One day the world will be gone, there’ll be no one here to walk the land. One day what you know will be wrong, there’ll be no one here to hold your hand.” Since nothing lasts forever, let’s toast for what we are and have now. “One day when the story’s all told, there’ll be no more words to fill the page. One night when the stars are all gone, there’ll be no more light to guide the way.”
It’s not easy being youngsters. Yet we won’t be forever young. Though the elders always say that we know nothing, on the contrary they also say that the youth spirit is the best thing, and that they should always have a young heart though they’re old; old at age, young at heart. This indicates that, indeed, youth is the best time of a human’s life. “Right now we’re crazy youngsters, time is running out, but who cares, we’re running free. They call us crazy youngsters, we don’t apologize, we’re mad and running free. Cause we got a lot of things to do. We got a lot of things to prove. We got a lot of room to grow. We got a lot of miles to go, so we keep driving.” Life is spread out before us. We’re young, wild, and free, and there’s nothing can stop us from growing strong each day. Prove to the elders, and more importantly to ourselves; we might be crazy but we go further and make the world a better place to live. “And don’t blink till its over, the fun has just begun. Let’s finish the race while our hearts are young. Hell yeah we’re crazy youngsters; we keep driving.”
