Among some things that can make us growing strong, is a discovery of ourselves. Life indeed is a quest; a journey to find not only what’s beyond the world that we live in, but also to understand what’s deep inside ourselves as a human being. What do we really want in life? What do we really need to live it? What do we truly want to achieve? What do we truly need to believe? Have you ever even asked yourself those questions? Perhaps all this time you’re just being too attached in your comfort zone. Have you ever even wondered about that? There’s more to life. There’s so much more to see in this world. How about, instead of letting ourselves being stuck up in the life as we know it, we take a look through a larger scale. Who knows that we’ll find a whole new world at the edge of the rainbow. It’s important for people to have a dream, and more important for them to fight for it. And believe, the process will make us growing strong.

I can open your eyes, take you wonder by wonder, over, sideways, and under, on a magic carpet ride. A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view. No one to tell us no, or where to go, or say we’re only dreaming.” –Brad Kane & Lea Salonga, A Whole New World [OST. Aladdin]

The classic hit titled “A Whole New World” is today’s song for Growing Strong. This ballad track is a song from Disney’s 1992 animated feature film “Aladdin”, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics written by Tim Rice. The original version was sung by Brad Kane and Lea Salonga during the film, as primary characters Aladdin and Jasmine respectively. They also performed the song in their characters at the 65th Academy Awards, where it won Academy Award for Best Original Song as well as the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards.

Sometimes people are crazily chasing for what they want, without realizing that it’s actually not what they need. Sometimes people are doing what other people say for the sake of anything other think is right, without considering their own feeling. The lyrics of “A Whole New World” speak about the feeling of finding a precious thing we’ve been missing: freedom. “I can show you the world, shining, shimmering, splendid. Tell me, princess, now when did you last let your heart decide? I can open your eyes, take you wonder by wonder, over, sideways, and under, on a magic carpet ride. A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view. No one to tell us no or where to go, or say we’re only dreaming.” For some boy, having freedom means to share it with the one he loves. For some girl, having freedom means to be able to choose, after seeing everything for herself. “Unbelievable sights, indescribable feeling, soaring, tumbling, freewheeling, through an endless diamond sky. A whole new world, a dazzling place I never knew. But now from way up here, it’s crystal clear, that now I’m in a whole new world with you.”
Well, I guess, the essence of love is about open up a whole new world for each other. One’s discovery of love is one’s discovery of themselves. Having freedom to feel the love we choose to have is a strength, and it will make us growing strong. A discovery of life brings people to a whole new world. A good discovery brings them a purpose. A great discovery brings them to be a better person. “A whole new world (don’t you dare close your eyes), a hundred thousand things to see (hold your breath, it gets better). I’m like a shooting star, I’ve come so far, I can’t go back to where I used to be. A whole new world (every turn a surprise), with new horizons to pursue (every moment red-letter). I’ll chase them anywhere, there’s time to spare, let me share this whole new world with you.” Life indeed is a journey to find a world where we really fit in. If you feel like being strangled or being a misfit in your life so far, perhaps the problem is not in you. Perhaps your journey hasn’t ended here, or perhaps it hasn’t started at all. And all you need to do is to begin. “A whole new world, that’s where we’ll be. A thrilling chase, a wondrous place, for you and me.”
