Who say that a heart has only one room? A heart has many rooms in it, apparently. If not, then where to put our parents and friends when it is filled with our lover? Though I also believe that even for lovers, it has more than just a room in it. It’s only the matter of how many rooms are occupied by our significant other, or how many we’re willing to give. One way or another, there’s always be someone to somebody who fills so many rooms. Even after that person left, at least one room will always be empty, for that person only. And there is a moment in life when we meet a person like that. We already knew it from the beginning that there will always be at least one room for that person. Because at some point, someone comes and never actually leaves. And it makes you wonder, whether they feel the same, whether they were like you.

When you don’t have anything to do or anywhere to be, and you’re home alone, I wonder, do you think of the past? I wonder, what do you do then?” –Park Sang Tae, If You Were Like Me (나와 같다면)

Today’s song for Moments Of Our Lives part 2 is a Korean classic hit titled “If You Were Like Me (나와 같다면)”. It was originally performed by Park Sang Tae and released in 1995 for his album titled “Lady’s Man”. However, it gained public’s recognition when singer Kim Jang Hoon released a remake of this ballad song three years later. Kim’s cover was featured in his fourth studio album, “Ballads For Tears”, which was released in March 10th 1998. The huge success of the song made him popular as he is today. “If You Were Like Me (나와 같다면)” was rising to fame once again after Kim Yeon Woo sang it for a television program in 2011.

At some point in life, someone comes and never actually leaves. There’s a moment in life when we meet a person like that. A person whom we already knew it from the beginning that there will always be at least one room in our hearts for them even after they left. And it makes us wondering whether they feel the same. The lyrics of “If You Were Like Me (나와 같다면)” tells about that. It comes along with everything that reminds us of that person. Past moments bring certain memories of a certain person. Moreover, in the loneliness. “When you don’t have anything to do or anywhere to be, and you’re home alone, I wonder, do you think of the past? I wonder, what do you do then? When you’re cleaning your room and you find my photo, do you just rip it apart? Or do you stare at it for a long time?”
“On a day when you’re feeling down, and it’s even raining, when the song we used to listen is played on the radio.” Past moments bring certain memories. And we can’t help but remembering those memories while similar moments are happening before us. In the solitude, on a rainy day, when a certain song is played. On those moments, we can’t help but wondering what went wrong, why they left, how it became over like this. We wonder, do they wonder the same, because there’s a room left in our hearts, only for them. “Like me, do you want to cry too? Why do I keep regretting it? What I did wrong and how warm your heart was, I keep on thinking of that. If you were like me, if you were feeling the same way as what I feel, you just have to come to me, to the room I still have for you inside my heart.”

Jung Dong Ha performed "If You Were Like Me" on episode 204 of "Immortal Songs 2"

“If You Were Like Me (나와 같다면)” was performed on episode 204 of a Korean entertainment music program, “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend”. It was during the second part of two-episodes “Famous Cover Songs Special”, as this song is a ‘steady seller’ (a hit song loved by people constantly for a long time) in South Korea. Some infamous remake versions have been released by different singers, making it a song that transcend generations. On that episode, the song was performed by Jung Dong Ha with rock ballad arrangement that won him the trophy of the special episode. That episode was broadcasted by KBS television station on June 20th 2015 and on KBS World channel on July 11th 2015.
