Deep Inside My Heart

Apparently, it’s a week full of sleepless nights. It’s good, though. I never despise sleepless night. It makes me think about a lot of things. The past, the present, the future. Things that I’ve lost, that I own, that I will have. Well, mostly things I’ve lost, since I own nothing and what I will have is still unclear. However, did I really lose those things that I think I’ve lost? Did I really own it back then? People say holding onto what we’ve already lost in the past is such a waste. But the past is what defines our present and future, and what we’ve lost is what teaches us how to embrace what we have. There were moments in the past where things slipped through my fingers. Things that I hold most dear. Things that I cherish from deep inside my heart. It’s not that I’m holding onto them. I’m embracing them, instead, by reminiscing. Besides, there’s no such definite future, and it’s not a sin to talk about the past a little bit anyway. For the night is dark and full of terrors.

I put down the phone as I was trying to call you. I guess I forgot about it for a moment. You’re not here anymore, you’re deep inside my heart. At the last moment of saying goodbye, your eyes told me the words you wanted to hear from me. I already knew, but I just couldn’t say them. You’re deep inside my heart.” –Shin Hae Chul, You’re Deep Inside My Heart ( 마음 깊은 곳의 )

For today’s Moments Of Our Lives part 2 is a Korean classic hit titled “You’re Deep Inside My Heart ( 마음 깊은 곳의 )”. The rock ballad song was performed by Korean legendary singer, the late Shin Hae Chul, who passed away last year from heart attack. It was first released in April 5th 1991, taken from his second solo album, “Myself”. With other songs like “Jazz Cafe” and “Letter To You”, “You’re Deep Inside My Heart ( 마음 깊은 곳의 )” was acknowledge as a piece that was of Shin’s own style, which was different from mainstream music back then. The sad and desperate lyrics stood out the most from this song.

Whenever you take a look back at the past, have you ever felt a regret, or a shame, for letting things slipped through your fingers, the precious ones? Whenever you come to visit those moments again through memories, have you ever realized that those precious things are never actually gone, that they stay deep inside your heart? The lyrics of “You’re Deep Inside My Heart ( 마음 깊은 곳의 )” speak about reminiscing the precious ones who stay deep inside our hearts, even after we separated from them. “I put down the phone as I was trying to call you. I guess I forgot about it for a moment. You’re not here anymore, you’re deep inside my heart. At the last moment of saying goodbye, your eyes told me the words you wanted to hear from me. I already knew, but I just couldn’t say them. You’re deep inside my heart.”
How did people become apart? At some point in life, we unconsciously push away some people from our lives, the precious ones in particular. Why did they do that? Perhaps we were just too afraid back then, for the yesterdays were full of fears and anxiety toward the tomorrows. “I was feeling too guilty to ask you for joining me in my worrisome uncertain future. If you were coming back to me, I would never let you be alone ever again. Whenever you close your eyes in my arms, I would protect you. I’ll wait for you until forever, you’re deep inside my heart.” Perhaps we just haven’t figured it out back then, that a thing could stay that deep inside our hearts, for “the joy of meeting and the heartache of goodbye are all moments that brush past years of time. Whenever I think of tomorrow that we’ll always be together forever, the heartbreaking waiting becomes a joy.”

Son Seung Yeon performed "You're Deep Inside My Heart" featuring Ahn Kap Sung on episode 205 of "Immortal Songs 2"

“You’re Deep Inside My Heart ( 마음 깊은 곳의 )” was performed on the Korean entertainment music program, “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend”. It was on episode 205, during the “Immortal Battle: The Seven Divas Special” episode, when it was performed by Son Seung Yeon, featuring the infamous baritone singer, Ahn Kap Sung. The episode was aired on KBS television station on June 27th 2015, and on KBS World channel on July 18th 2015. Though Son was the youngest performer on that episode, it clearly didn’t affect much toward her magnificent performance. She has proved that she’s not easily intimidated by her seniors. Son Seung Yeon is a rookie no more.
