Sometimes people use the “while we’re young” as an excuse for doing something. Perhaps something crazy. Perhaps something bad. Yet it can be also something good. Something incredible. Anyway it is, it must be something unexpected and unpredictable when they use the “while we’re young”. Perhaps something stupid, silly, and ridiculous. Perhaps something brilliant, great, and amazing. Perhaps something funny. Perhaps something melodramatic. Anyway it is, they make moments. They make memories for the future while they’re young. And in the process, that’s their quest; a human being’s never ending quest. A quest in searching for what? That’s the answer they have to look for themselves. Moments pass and memories are made, and we’re living like a lost star trying to light up the dark as we give everything to live life to the fullest while trying to find what we’re searching for.

And God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young. It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run. We’re searching for meaning, but are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?” –Keira Knightley, Lost Stars (OST. Begin Again)

Continuing the previous post about the movie “Begin Again”, today’s post is about the main theme song of the movie, “Lost Stars”, as today’s song for Moments Of Our Lives. The acoustic pop folk song is performed by Keira Knightley, who starred in the film as Gretta James. Another version with male vocal and more band sound is performed by Maroon 5’s frontman, Adam Levine, who also starred as Gretta ex-boyfriend, Dave Kohl, in the movie. “Lost Stars” was written by Gregg Alexander, Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley, and Nick Southwood.

Life is playful, so why don’t we play along with it? “Lost Stars” basically tells about someone’s thought of the life. That things happen, and they happen for a reason. People stumble and it could happen in any time, so why do we waste our time grieving while we could spend it getting up again? “Please don’t see just a girl caught up in dreams and fantasies. Please see me reaching out for someone I can’t see. Take my hand, let’s see where we wake up tomorrow. Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand. I’ll be damned, Cupid’s demanding back his arrow, so let’s get drunk on our tears.” Life is an adventure, so why don’t we value momentary experience even if it’s not something that pays off in the long run? Even at some points, life demands people to retract their love for one another. It’s okay to be not okay.
“Who are we? Just a speck of dust within the galaxy. ‘Woe is me’, if we’re not careful turns into reality. Don’t you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow, yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer. Turn the page, maybe we’ll find a brand new ending, where we’re dancing in our tears.” People wonder whether human being should be so myopic. Is there a deeper meaning to why we exist, or is our existence strictly scientific, a result of randomness? People cast self-fulfilling prophecies for themselves. If we believe our lives to be bad, we will live bad lives. As long as we believe, the impossible can indeed happen, a change can indeed occur, so why don’t we see the glass half full rather than half empty?
“I thought I saw you out there crying. I thought I heard you call my name. I thought I heard you out there crying. But just the same.” Have we ever wondered about our feelings toward humanity? Have we ever questioned the nature of reality hear? What is time? What purpose do we have in the world? What is meaningful in this life? The forces of the powerful and the powerless are always in conflict. Have we ever asked about the role of human beings in the universe? Do any of us really know our purpose? Do we pretend to know our purpose because that confidence brings us comfort? Whether human beings have a higher purpose or if nobody understands anything at all. “And God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young. It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run. We’re searching for meaning, but are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?”
