Hello, Readers! I gladly welcome you to the middle of the year (already!) in this June. How’s your resolution for this year going so far? Is it great? Any progress yet? Or is it just so-so? Anything special happened yet? Well, anyway it is, I hope it’s not something bad. And if it is, well, there’s still seven months left in 2015. Come on, be positive! The glass isn’t half empty, it’s half full instead, right? As usual, it’s a new month so we need a new theme for June’s posts. Actually, up until this time I write this, I still haven’t figured out yet what theme I will use for this month. And I’m tempted to continue the last month’s theme with perhaps Free Spirit Part 2, but that would sound like a movie saga so I hold myself to do so. Hmmm, well, I’m thinking. Okay now, beyond anything, I really want to discuss about one particular song for today’s post; “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” by Green Day, so I guess I will go with that one for this month’s theme; I’ll name it Moment Of Our Lives.

So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why. It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time.” –Green Day, Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)

Just like I’ve mentioned above, today’s song, as well as the first song for Moment Of Our Lives, is a song titled “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)”, which was performed by the American punk rock band, Green Day. The acoustic rock song was released on October 17th 1997 and served as the second single taken from the band’s fifth studio album, “Nimrod”. “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” was written by Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of the band, in 1990, and later was composed and arranged by Green Day prior to its release.

At least once in our lifetime, people get to have their turning point; a life-changing moment. And that’s the moment when most of us contemplate about the life we got so far. “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” has a contemplative lyrics that speak about someone’s thought on their life so far. “Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go. So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why. It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time.” At some points in our lifetime, people get to face a turning-point; a point where we have to make a significant choice that might change our life forever. When that time comes, we have nothing to do but to choose. When we have chosen, we have nothing to do but to make the best out of it. No matter where it would take us to. Because life is full of lessons learned.
“So take the photographs and still frames in your mind. Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time. Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial. For what it’s worth, it was worth all the while.” Anyway the choice takes us to, just understand that every second in our life, every breath that we take, every moment that we have, they’re precious. They become memories for the future. When it’s a good thing then it will be a good memories. When it’s a bad thing then it will be a great memories. Every memory is a lesson learned in time. And it’s worth it. We never know what the future will bring, indeed. Therefore what we can do is appreciating the now. Embrace it. Be prepared for what’s coming up next, yet be free. Because everything will eventually be beautiful in time. “It’s something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life.”

Unlike other Green Day’s hits previously to this song, “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” featured more mellow and soft alternative rock melody. Mark Kohr was the director for the music video and it brought the band to win their first MTV Video Music Awards in 1998 for Best Alternative Video. The massive success and popularity of this song made “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” one of the band’s signature songs up to today. Many other singers sang a cover of it, and it also appeared in many medias of popular culture.
