The Love Has Gone

When it comes to love, we found and lost something inside ourselves. We found our strength, and lost it at the same time. Love becomes both our strength and weakness; Lost and Found. And when the love is over, we found and lost something else. We found emptiness. We lost the grip. No matter how hard we tell ourselves to forget, how could we forget? No matter how hard we tell ourselves to be okay, how could we be okay? Everything seems so lost. And we found nothing but a big hole inside our hearts, and perhaps a few tears falling down our faces. We lost for words, and found nothing but longing feeling.

Finding it hard to speak makes me forget what to say to you. But, the memories from those days when we were madly in love, how can I forget that?” –Kim Soo Hee, Lost Love (잃어버린 )

Today’s song for Lost and Found is a Korean classic titled “Lost Love (잃어버린 )”. This trot ballad song was performed by Korean legendary soulful diva, Kim Soo Hee. It was first released on 1984 as a lead single from Kim’s third studio album. A recession affected the music industry but her album sold over 100,000 copies, earning her a car from the record label, which was a great achievement back then. The song was also popular in Japan, and Kim became one of a few Korean singers who performed her song in Japanese during 80s. It’s a sweet-sorrow song that shows the epitome of what a beautiful trot song is.
When it comes to loves, even the strongest person could be so weak. And sometimes, the weakness comes just when we need to be strong instead. “Lost Love (잃어버린 )” tells about someone’s weakness in front of the love, even until the end of the relationship, even until the separation, even after it’s all over. “Seeing your beautiful eyes makes me unable to say a word. As you turn your back on me, cold and heartless, I think you don’t even know what tears are.” When we know that it’s a goodbye, we picture all the things that we want to say in our thoughts. But when we face it, those words are just suddenly gone. “Finding it hard to speak makes me forget what to say to you. But, the memories from those days when we were madly in love, how can I forget that?”
When we know that the love is over now, we keep telling ourselves that everything will be just fine. But when we face it, it’s just emptiness left inside, and tears can’t help but streaming down. When we know that the love is gone now, we keep telling ourselves to let go of every regret and resentment. But when we face it, it’s just anxiety left inside, and we can’t help but wondering how could we forget. “You are leaving me is like there’s no time for even a smile to linger.” And just like that, there’s no room for a smile, for everything that we’ve just lost, for the future longing that would be found. “When you leave, don’t keep remorseful regrets or feelings left behind. But when I miss our lost love, what am I supposed to do then?”
On the 188th episode of Korean entertainment music program, “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend”, Kim Soo Hee was appeared as the legend. The Kim Soo Hee special episode was broadcasted by KBS television station on February 28th 2015, and later was aired by KBS World channel on March 21st 2015. During that episode, “Lost Love (잃어버린 )” was performed by the rookie monster vocalist, Son Seung Yeon. When Kim sang this song with her appealing voice, Son hit it amazingly with her powerful vocal. Son got standing ovation from the audience after her mesmerizing performance, that’s just how great of a singer she is.
