Well life is surely moving like a roller-coaster. Not only its ups and downs, but also its speed. Yup, so fast. And now, Readers, we welcome March, the third month of the year. While for many of you, this month doesn’t have any special meanings at all, but it’s different for me. March is always special for me. It’s the month of birth, well, my birth. And what makes it more special this year is that it marks the quarter of a century that I’ve been living on this Earth in this female human body named Mashita Fandia. So, the post for this whole month will be all about me, my choice, my pick for anything that matter in my life, and the theme will be My Choices: Continue Living. Whether it’s a song, movie, series, list of anything, I hope you can enjoy my choices from here on for this month. And please, pardon my randomness if there are some.

Written in these walls are the stories that I can’t explain. I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days.” –One Direction, Story of My Life

For the starter, I have the song titled “Story of My Life”, performed by One Direction. Oh well, oh well, I’m kind of surprised with myself too when I choose this song. Truth to be told, I’m not such a big fans of the British-Irish boy band. But I don’t know, when I listened to this song for the first time, I just got addicted to it. I’ve heard many of their hit songs before, but this one, it’s just different. It’s the first song of theirs that successfully caught my full attention. Well, life is full of surprises, right? Anyway, some people sometimes doubt, that when we are this young, what can we possibly tell about the life? Are we even living long enough to have the story of our lives?
And if you asked me, my answer would be; yes, we can tell about the life, and also yes, we’re living enough to have the story of our lives. Here’s the thing; ones’ story isn’t defined by how long they’ve been living, but how much they’ve learnt from it. Because believe me, we learn about life not only from our own experiences, but also from others. So when these five young boys tell the story of their lives through this song, I really appreciate it. I’m touched by their sincerity and efforts to give meaning for their own lives in the very young age. It’s always good to contemplate. And the younger you start, the better it gets.

Talking about life, no matter how young or old you are, there’s always some things that matter; love, relationship, heartbreak. To tell you, those three are things that give great impact in a human’s life. At the age when a broken heart really matters, like there’s nothing we can think or be burdened about but that, that’s where “Story of My Life” takes us. The lyrics speak of a tumultuous relationship leading to lament and heartbreak; well that at least is according to Wikipedia. Anyway, this song is about someone through a heartbreak from the shattered relationship. “She told me in the morning she don’t feel the same about us in her bones. Seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone.” Heartbreak is a paradox; you leave your heart open but it stays empty, in fact it’s the wound that left open; you leave your heart open but it stays closed, in fact it’s a big hole that left inside. Heartbreak is a ghost you can’t control; don’t know until when you would be suffered from it, because when that person leaves, they leave footprints on the page of your memories in life. “I know that in the morning, now I see us in the light upon a hill. Although I am broken, my heart is untamed, still.”
Relationship is like a wild roller-coaster; exciting and dangerous at the same time. You’ve already understood the risks, so it’s just the matter of whether the ride is worth trying and fighting for. And sometimes, it only takes one shot for you to finally realize when it’s time to walk out; that you’ve been trying too hard, to hold on, for too long. “And I’ll be gone, gone tonight, the ground beneath my feet is open wide. The way that I’ve been holding on too tight, with nothing in between. And I'll be gone, gone tonight, the fire beneath my feet is burning bright. The way that I’ve been holding on so tight, with nothing in between.” Relationship is a paradox; it brings happiness, but not without the pain along; that person comes into your life just to leave you in the end of the story. “And I’ve been waiting for this time to come around. But running after you is like chasing the clouds.” When life feels like moving too fast, and earth seems like spinning too fast, we hope that the time could be frozen, just right at the moment when we’re with that beloved person. But hope has been given, love has been spent, a heart has been broken, and there’s nothing we can do to turn back the time. So this broken heart will be a chapter in the story of our lives. “The story of my life, I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm, and time is frozen. The story of my life, I give her hope, I spend her love until she’s broke inside.”

One Direction in "Story of My Life" music video

“Story of My Life” was released on October 25th 2013. It served as the second single from One Direction’s third studio album, titled “Mignight Memories”. The album was released on November 25th 2013. The mid-tempo pop song was written by the group members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, along with Julian Bunetta, Jamie Scott, and John Ryan. This song also has the influences of folk and alternative rock. Directed by Ben Winston, the music video for “Story of My Life” was officially premiered on November 3rd 2013 by Vevo. The song succeed not only commercially but also critically. It received positive reviews from critics, well, from me too, obviously. It’s the group’s signature song with the most mature lyrics, and mature music too. Well done, and I’m expecting more ‘kind of like this’ songs from them in the future.

Written on these walls are the colors that I can’t change. Leave my heart open but it stays right here in its cage.” –One Direction, Story of My Life

“Written in these walls are the stories that I can’t explain
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days
She told me in the morning she don’t feel the same about us in her bones
Seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone

And I’ll be gone, gone tonight, the ground beneath my feet is open wide
The way that I’ve been holding on too tight, with nothing in between

The story of my life, I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm
And time is frozen (the story of, the story of)
The story of my life, I give her hope, I spend her love until she’s broke inside
The story of my life (the story of, the story of)

Written on these walls are the colors that I can’t change
Leave my heart open but it stays right here in its cage
I know that in the morning now I see us in the light upon a hill
Although I am broken, my heart is untamed, still

And I'll be gone, gone tonight, the fire beneath my feet is burning bright
The way that I’ve been holding on so tight, with nothing in between

And I’ve been waiting for this time to come around
But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds”
