When I was an adolescence who knew nothing about love, I used to think that the time quantity of a relationship defines the quality of their love. That the longer two people are in a relationship with each other, the stronger and the deeper their love is. But as I grow up, I realize that I’m not completely right. Love is more about the quality, not the quantity. I’ve seen so many couples who were breaking up after years of relationship, though I’ve also seen some couples who could make it to marriage after years of relationship. However, there were also some couples who made it to marriage only after a few months of relationship, and they’re going strong still. Ironically, some of them were in a long-term relationship with someone else before they got married with someone they’ve only known for not-as-long-as-their-previous-relationship. My point is, love is about the quality. Whether it’s just one day, seven days, forty days, a hundred days, or even a thousand days, as long as it gets you so, someone will leave a very deep impression in you, and it can last forever.

During those thousand days, did you understand that I laughed and cried a lot with you? That I always watched over you, and was thankful for you who really loved me?” –Lee Seung Hwan, For A Thousand Days (천일동안)

Talking about the deep footprints that are left by a memorable person in our life, a song titled “For A Thousand Days (천일동안)” will be My Choices: Continue Living song of the day. It was performed by one of South Korean legendary balladeers, Lee Seung Hwan, and considered as his biggest hit. It was first released on June 1995 as the title song of Lee’s fourth studio album, titled “Human: The Different Side”. The lyrics of “For A Thousand Days (천일동안)”, as you’ve might guessed, talk about a person having the post break up experience, as that person struggle with memories of those time that had been spent together. “For a thousand days, I believed that our love would last forever. Just like a fool, that’s all I thought was true. Although I was able to endure you saying goodbye, for me to wish you happiness, would myself seem a bit strange with that?” When people fall in love, they used to think that the love would last forever. When people fall in love, they tend to believe any foolish thing, thinking that it’s the truth to be believed. However, some relationships are just not working. No matter how crazy in love they were at first. No matter how long they’ve been in love. They decide to go separate ways after a thousand days together. And when they look back to those days, they finally can see everything in a whole new perspective.
“During those thousand days, did you understand that I laughed and cried a lot with you? That I always watched over you, and was thankful for you who really loved me? I will miss you, even after another thousand days pass, of course I will do. Please don’t forget those beautiful names we gave to our love.” The love they had and shared back then was real, and they realize that now. That’s why they feel grateful, for having that person beside them during all of those days. That’s why they feel sorry, for giving that person hard times during all of those days. There’s no regret. Though sometimes they wonder how that person is doing, it doesn’t mean that they want to go back. That person will always have a particular place in their heart that they will cherish forever. Because they’ve learnt a lot from that person, the relationship, and the love. And those footprints will always be there. A thousand days for forever. “During those thousand days, was it difficult for you? Did I ever hurt you by any chance? Please forgive me if I did, for it will be the last time I do so. After that day, I’ve been relieved, I’m just wondering how you’re doing. Even in the next life of ours, let’s never meet again.”
