Turn Back the Time

Life is a series of meetings and separations; that’s what Santosh Kalwar once said in his book titled “That’s My Love Story”. In a relation to that, I remember a quote by Nadia Scrieva in her book titled “Fathoms of Forgiveness”. She wrote that each meeting occurs at the precise moment for which it was meant; usually, when it will have the greatest impact on our lives. Well I believe that there’s no such thing as a coincidence. All events in life are connected by some means; cause and effect. So are meetings and separations, so are The Remembered and The Forgotten. Why do we get separated? Why do we meet again after all these years? Why do I keep remember those times we’ve spent together? Why can’t I forget those memories? Someday we’ll know, by all means.

I need to turn back time again, but where did we go wrong? Our past is about to disappear.” –One More Chance, Please Come Back To Me (시간을 거슬러) [OST. Discovery of Love]

Who say that a broken heart couldn’t be celebrated? Well, a broken heart is a sad thing indeed, yet it doesn’t mean that we have to be 100% melancholic because of that. Let’s be positive, it’s a brand new year anyway. I tell you this because the song I’m about to introduce is a pop song with dynamic and cheerful melody titled “Please Come Back To Me (시간을 거슬러)” by indie singers and musicians duo, One More Chance. It was released as a single “Discovery of Love OST Part 3” on August 27th 2014 for the KBS’ romantic comedy drama series, “Discovery of Love” (2014), original soundtrack. It also appeared on “Discovery of Love OST” album, which was released on November 4th 2014.

“Please Come Back To Me (시간을 거슬러)” is a song about a sincere wish of a man who wants to turn back the time, so that he could start over with the love that has left him. “One day, you who went far away from me, you who let go of my hand, you were getting farther away like the hands of a clock.” She has left, yet time keeps on ticking and doesn’t know how to stop. Memories are fading, yet time keeps on going and he doesn’t have the power to stop it. “Clock hands are getting farther away, please don’t go. I try to hold on but I can’t.” Longing turns into a realization of his mistakes. Realization turns into disappoinment and anger toward himself. They turn into regrets. Regrets turn into a desperate wish to turn back the time. The wish turns into a begging; to come back. “If I could turn back time, and if we could ever meet again, if we could ever love again, even if I were about to lose everything else, please come back to me.”
Before being served as a soundtrack for “Discovery of Love” (2014), “Please Come Back To Me (시간을 거슬러)” was originally released by One More Chance as a part of their debut single on May 18th 2010, and be a part of their first EP which was released on September 14th 2010. For the soundtrack version, the duo consisted of Jung Ji Chan and Park Won rearranged the song, yet only the intro part that was different from the original version. Truth to be told, I’ve known this song long before it became the soundtrack. Back then it was so hard to find the English translation because this song was barely popular internationally. So thanks God, it found its way to me.

If I could turn back time, and if we could never meet again, if we really couldn’t, then I would turn back time to when we haven’t even met.” –One More Chance, Please Come Back To Me (시간을 거슬러) [OST. Discovery of Love]
