Behind

American singer-songwriter, Tim McGraw, once said, “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere.” Now and then, we all bring some little pieces from people we’ve met during our long way up to this place where we stand right now. Every piece has made us for what we are today. The Remembered and The Forgotten; though time has passed, we make sure that we cherish every little happy piece, and put away those painful pieces, as we feel gratitude towards those people, both who stay and has left.

I will never be enough for you, I know that’s because of me. That’s why I can’t hold onto you, who are leaving now.” –Park Jin Young, “Behind You (너의 뒤에서)” [OST. Feelings]

Let’s tune down the tempo again with a classic hits titled “Behind You (너의 뒤에서)”. The ballad song was performed by Park Jin Young, or also well-known as JYP, and was first released on 1994 as a soundtrack for KBS’ drama series, “Feelings” (1994). The immense popularity of the drama series made this song was as popular. It had been covered by many junior singers, including the infamous ballad male singers, Sung Si Kyung and Lee Seung Gi. Huh Gak and John Park also sang it as their rivalry collaboration performance on Superstar K2.
“Behind You (너의 뒤에서)” is a song about someone who gives a promise for the person they love, to watch over that person, even though they’ve broken up. Somehow when we break up with the one we hold most dear, we look back to those times we’ve spent together with them, and as much as we’re hurt, we feel sorry for them; for not being good enough for them, for not being able to hold them back. “Whenever I was looking at your struggling self, I got the feeling of separation had already there.” Yet we guess that letting go is the best choice, as we can’t see that person keeps being hurt by staying with us. Though, there is no separation that brings happiness. “You probably hate it when I showed an expressionless heartbreak. But will you know that behind my back were eyes full of tears?” We will never know what tomorrow brings. And as much as we cherish them in our hearts, we promise to watch over them with our own way; from a far, from behind, for always. “Now you’re on your own way, yet in case you fall weary and tired, without making you wait even a second, I’ll be your strength, right behind you.”
In an entertainment music program, “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend”, “Behind You (너의 뒤에서)” was performed by the Davichi member, Lee Hae Ri. It was when Park Jin Young appeared as a legend, during the 51st episode, which was also the second part of Park Jin Young special episodes. The episode was broadcasted by KBS television station on May 19th 2012, and later was broadcasted by KBS World channel on June 9th 2012. Lee’s performance impressed JYP so much, as she sang with a great sensibility that touched everyone’s heart.

You’re leaving now but I’ll always stand here right behind you. I’ll even take some distance away so that I won’t be a bother for you.” –Park Jin Young, “Behind You (너의 뒤에서)” [OST. Feelings]
