I just want you to love me, will love come? Tell me that you love me, if you feel the same way like me. I’m hoping, hoping and hoping, but I can’t have you. And even though I know that, I’m still looking for you again, like a fool.” –Kim Na Young, Hope and Hope (바라고 바라고) (OST. Marriage, Not Dating) [translated lyrics]

Among all four drama series that I’ve watched on this month, “Marriage, Not Dating” is catching my attention for its heartbreaking soundtracks. One of the soundtracks is titled “Hope and Hope”, which is suited well with this month’s theme; broken heart. This ballad song is performed by female soloist Kim Na Young. “Hope and Hope (바라고 바라고)” was released as a single “Marriage, Not Dating OST Part 4” on August 22nd, 2014. Later, it was released as a part of the album “Marriage, Not Dating OST” on August 29th, 2014.

Falling in love is always beautiful. Even when it hurts, it’s a beautiful pain. Why? Because love is blinding. “Hope and Hope (바라고 바라고)” is a song about someone who’s being hurt from the one-sided love she feels towards the man inside her heart. Crying a lot because of longing, being lost too deep in memories, she has been through those feelings all alone. “For a long time I’ve been only crying, even today I’m still longing for you. It was so hard back then to keep watch over me and comfort me, that feeling, that feeling. For a long time I’ve been lost in memories of you, but when I open my eyes, I only see your back. Is this a dream? Am I still living on those days when I used to face you?” He won’t even know how hard it has been for her to guard her feelings, how sad she feels when she saw him leaving. He won’t even know how many tears she has cried, because she always smile outside, for him. “You don’t even know because I’m always smiling, how much my exhausted heart has cried. If I call out to you and tell you I miss you thousands of times, will you think of me at least once?”
When we have the sincerity in our love, will the sincerity reach that person we love? When we sincerely long for that person, will he/she think of us, at least just once? “I just want you to love me, will love come? Tell me that you love me, if you feel the same way like me. I’m hoping, hoping and hoping, but I can’t have you. And even though I know that, I’m still looking for you again, like a fool.” When we sincerely mention that person in our prayers, will the sincerity get through him/her? “If I desperately call out your name, will we be able to meet again as before?” Will that person feel the same way like we are? For me, I personally think that a prayer is the biggest form of love, the most sincere one. Even though we know we can’t have that person, we keep praying for the love to be able to reach him/her. Because we can’t help but keep having this feeling, can’t help but always look for that person, even though we know we can’t have him/her. “I can’t live without you, will you come? Tell me that you love me, if you feel the same way like me. I’m hoping, hoping and hoping, but I can’t have you, and even though I know that, I’m still looking for you again, like a fool.”

“Hope and Hope (바라고 바라고)” goes well with the drama series’ storyline. It’s a theme song for the main characters, Joo Jang Mi (portrayed by Han Groo), about her feeling towards Gong Gi Tae (portrayed by Yeon Woo Jin), which at first is one-sided and therefore hurts her a lot. But as the series progress, we can see that Jang Mi’s sincerity through her love and efforts will reach Gi Tae’s heart. October is almost over, so, if this month for you is a month of broken heart –like what it is for me– then don’t give up hopes. Because nothing lasts forever, and November will come soon.
