Cold Love

Being trapped in a sad feeling, I can’t escape from it. I’m breaking down at the words of sorry. What should I do? This cold love has stopped my heart, my heart that has been broken into pieces. This sick love has stopped my breath, my breath that slowly dies. Day by day, I wither like a wild flower.” –CNBLUE, Cold Love [translated lyrics]

In this month of broken heart, while talking about heartbreaking love songs, recently I’ve been falling in love with this song. “Cold Love (독한 사랑)”, just like its title, is a song about someone who’s on the edge of a breakup with his/her lover. For some people who have been in a long-term relationship must have ever felt this way; when the love gradually feels so cold. Attitudes that are not as passionate as before, and make them feel that the breakup is getting closer. “There’s no spirit in your hello anymore, so I get the feeling that our ending will come. There’s no soul in your expression anymore, as I tell those light jokes.” Gestures that are not as warm as before, and make them know that the breakup is already near. “A sonata of farewells, words that I know even without hearing them. Your eyes that are letting go of our love, your arms that are cold even when I’m in them.” A cold relationship is like a time bomb, waiting for its time to finally explode. And so are tears, it falls down when that bomb explodes. “The tears that were hiding behind my smile are falling as if they’ve waited for it.” No matter how desperate they want to, they just can’t turn back the time. “Oh, wanna change to when we used to love then.”
People say that there’s no breakup that is breakeven. There’s always one person who’s hurt more than the other one. There’s always one person who have more to deal with lingering feelings than the other one. There’s always one person who’s broken more than the other one. “Being lingered by a painful breakup, I can’t get away from it. I’m swaying at the words of thank you. What should I do? This cold love breaks down my strength, and all of everything that I used to love.” People also say that there’s no relationship that is even. There’s always one person who loves more than the other one. And for that person, they can’t just hate the other person because they’re being hurt. Even those simple words like “I’m sorry” and “thank you” can weaken them. But there’s nothing can wash away the pain they feel from that breakup. Being lingered and trapped alone, being died alone, like a fallen withered flower. “Being trapped in a sad feeling, I can’t escape from it. I’m breaking down at the words of sorry. What should I do? This cold love has stopped my heart, my heart that has been broken into pieces. This sick love has stopped my breath, my breath that slowly dies. Day by day, I wither like a wild flower.”

The thing that had attracted me since the first time I heard “Cold Love (독한 사랑)” was this song’s melody. The arrangement is dominated by rock band sound, which actually is rarely could be heard from CNBLUE, because they usually produce the pop band sound. The music arrangement is totally my kind of favorite music. I have to put many thumbs up for Lee Jong Hyun, Kang Min Hyuk, and Lee Jung Shin, especially for Jung Yong Hwa who penned this song. The truth is I’m quite disappointed that this song wasn’t chose as their promotional lead single from the mini album, because I love this song much more than the title song, “Can’t Stop”, itself. And I personally think that this song could have stood out more than “Can’t Stop”. Anyway, it’s one of a kind track from CNBLUE and I salute them for this. Great done, guys!
