Like Birds

I open my eyes and all I can see is myself between those gray buildings. Pouring shower and harsh wind hit me as I wander the streets. The sky looks heavy, and all I can see is asphalt between those whiping smokes. Even if I want to leave this stuffy city, I can’t go anywhere.” –Byun Jin Sub, Like Birds [translated lyrics]

Program acara musik “Immortal Songs 2: Singing the Legend” episode 91 menampilkan penyanyi legendaris Byun Jin Sub sebagai legenda. During the late 80s, when trot music was at its prime and dominated the South Korean music industry, came a ballad singer that changed the dynamics. He was the original prince of ballad, Byun Jin Sub. During times when appearance was everything, he showed people that he could receive love just by singing well. With his delicate voice and melody, he stirred the hearts of women. Byun was the first-ever singer to sell a million copy of an album.
“Like Birds” is a song about someone who dreams about living freely and with no worries, just like those flying birds up in the air. It tells about someone who feels super-tired and exhausted his daily routines; of a city-life that full of traffics and buildings. Somehow he feels trapped between works, traffic-jams, and pollutions; and he feels that he’s getting enough of it. “The cars are racing through the open space, and the people are shined by the setting sun. Darkness is coming down surrounding the city as I’m singing. I open my eyes and all I can see is myself between those gray buildings. Pouring shower and harsh wind hit me as I wander the streets. The sky looks heavy, and all I can see is asphalt between those whiping smokes. Even if I want to leave this stuffy city, I can’t go anywhere.” Somehow, he wants to escape. Free like those flying birds, he wants to go anywhere he can calm down himself to just breathe some fresh air and clear his mind; somewhere is as peaceful as the sky. “As I look at those birds flying, I want to follow them and fly as well. Freely underneath the blue sky, I want to go follow them as well.”
He made a variety, exciting, and fun performance. As expected from Son, his performance upgraded the already-great immortal song.

As I look at those birds flying, I want to follow them and fly as well. Freely underneath the blue sky, I want to go follow them as well.” –Byun Jin Sub, Like Birds [translated lyrics]
